March 15th, 12:00-1:00pm via Zoom Tala Khanmalek, Ph.D., Women and Gender Studies CSUF Alumn Gina Waneis
How can researching and teaching come together in the service of social justice within and beyond academia? This presentation focuses on how to write—and publish—articles with students as a transformative learning practice that bridges research, teaching, and social justice. It will cover the whole process step-by-step, from laying the groundwork for intellectual collaboration to journal publication, and include many tips based my own experience co-authoring an article with three CSUF students (one graduate and two undergraduate students). As undergraduate co-author Gina Waneis and I will discuss, the topic of our article—Middle Eastern student activism in higher education—is directly connected to social issues that shape our everyday lives. Through our long-term collaboration, which began in the classroom and continued in my role as the advisor to Gina’s student group, we contributed to a growing body of scholarship on Middle Eastern racial formation. Most importantly, we did it in a way that showcases the praxis of equity and how researching and teaching, when combined, can make a difference for first generation students and scholars of color. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A. Meeting ID: 824 2589 6464 - https://fullerton.zoom.us/j/82425896464 Comments are closed.
